History of BI-LO LLC –

In 1961, Frank Outlaw founded BI-LO, originally named Wrenn & Outlaw. In 1977, Ahold, a Dutch retail food conglomerate bought BI-LO. Subsequently, the company bought Red Food Stores, Inc in 1994 and Bruno’s Supermarkets in 2001 and merged their operations with BI-LO. In 2003, to attract high-end customers, a heavy investment was made in the concept of new Super BI-LO. Now the BI-LO stores were larger and featured a greater selection of healthier foods, specialty foods and organic foods. In 2005, Lone Star Funds bought BI-LO from Ahold. The company made settled progress after that. In 2013, under Lone Star Funds, BI-LO bought 22 Piggy Wiggly in South Carolina and Georgia. In December 2011 BI-LO purchased Winn-Dixie for USD$530 million, and operate Winn-Dixie as a subsidiary with its stores maintaining the Winn-Dixie name.
