History

The founder of this company, Bernard Barney Kroger is a son of a merchant. He had a simple policy according to which he only sold things that he would himself happily purchase. Quality was his top most concern. In the 1930s Krogers became the first company to test the food offered to customers and also monitored their product quality.

In the year 1955 it purchased three supermarket chains within a short span of three months. Krogers acquired the 56-store chain Market Basket in October, 1963. Between 1960 to 1988, it opened stores across Florida under the names ‘SupeRx’ and ‘Florida Choice’. But later it sold all its stores in Florida to various companies among which Kash n Karry purchased the majority of shares.

In the 1970s, Krogers became the first grocer to formalize consumer research by testing an electric scanner. In 1972, Kroger built an ultra modern dairy plant, which was known as Crossroad Farms Dairy in Indianapolis. It was then considered as the largest dairy plant in the world.

The company has made several landmarks in its line of business since its incorporation. It has a magnificent growth record, which is rising high by every passing decade starting from the 1930s till the 2010s.

The Krogers definitely deserves to be your top choice if you are looking to invest. In the extremely volatile and risky space of stocks, the company is performing steadily well. It has a very favorable growth score and also it ranked as one of the best buys in the current situation. The company is looking to grow at a rate of 12.1%, which far much ahead of the EPS projected 6.9% growth rate. Cash is the lifeblood of growth oriented companies like Krogers. The current cash flow growth rate of Krogers is a highly impressive 16.1%. This is far ahead of its contemporaries and the average set by the industry.
