Sprint Corporation – The Fourth Largest Wireless Network Operator in the United States

This American telecommunication holding organization is mostly referred to as “Sprint”. It has been providing wireless services to a thriving customer base in America since many years, and is beyond doubts, one of the major internet carriers worldwide. Talking about the United States of America, this particular entity has secured the fourth position for being the wireless network operator that has served nearly 58.4 million users as recorded by the end of January 2016. The organization has also been innovative enough and provided the provision for voice, messaging, broadband services through its diverse subsidiaries under “Virgin Mobile”, “Boost Mobile” and “Assurance wireless” Brands. It also offers a wholesale access to the wireless networks to mobile virtual network operators. The organization does have it’s headquarter located in Kansas, Overland Park.

During the year 2013 the company recorded entire revenue of $35.493 billion, which in comparison to the year was recorded an increase. The company during 2012 recorded the revenue of $35.345 billion in revenue. Operating income during 2013 $91 million was recorded to be operating income, which during 2012 turned out to be $382 million. Net income during 2013 were recorded to be $ – 3.018 billion, which during 2012 were recorded to be $ – 4.353 million. All about Sprint  

During the July 2013, Japanese telecommunication organization “Softbank Corporation” acquired majority of the organization. Though, outstanding shares of “Sprint Corporation” continued to trade over the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange). The organization “Sprint corporation” made an approach to the “Brown Telephone Company” that was established during the year 1899 for deploying telephone services to the countryside areas particularly across “Abilene, Kansas”. During 2006, the organization decided to exit the business of “Local Landline Telephone” and offered those assets to one of the newcomer organization that was recently found naming “Embarq” that later on became an associate of the “CenturyLink”. The organization still maintains the position for being one of the major long distance service providers within the continent of “United States of America”.

Before the year 2005, the organization was popular with the name of “Sprint Corporation”, but was renamed as “Sprint Nextel Corporation” after it finalized the deal of merging with the “Nextel Communications” during the same year. However, during 2013 Nextel Communication announced their shutdown, which also affected the merger or the synchronization that was established with the Sprint Corporation.

 

The Reforms

Acquisition by the Softbank Corporation and sudden shutdown of the “Nextel Corporation” forced the organization to utilise their previous name “Sprint Corporation”. During July 2013, being a part of the transactions carried out by the Softbank Corporation, the Sprint did acquire its outstanding shares of the wireless broadband carrier “Clearwire Corporation” that it never owned. During the earlier August of 2014, the organization announced that the CEO of the organization Mr. Dan Hesse would be substituted by the “Marcelo Claure, which would be effective from the mid of August in the same year. Marcelo Claure has been the founder and former CEO of the wireless supplier that is “Brightstar”.
