The organization however, has been found during 1986 when the management opened in Brighton, Massachusetts. The “Quill Corporation” has been the most profitable division for the organization that accounts for almost 25% of the organizational income. During the period of 1998-2009 this particular division grew tremendously from $500 million to way over than $1.3 billion.
It was during the year 1985 that the idea of setting up the organization was developed. However, the founder Thomas G. Stemberg had to face significant problems for proceeding with his idea. The idea however gradually grew to the position that is visible to the world today. Different subsidiaries of the Staples are “Officenet-Staples”, “Office Centre”, “Staples Canada”, “Mondoffice” and others. The organization also prefers doing business with the enterprises that are operating within various nations across the European Continent in the name “Staples Advantage”.

Company Proceedings
Gradually, the organization started growing and during 1991 the organization founded the Canadian Subsidiary “The Business Depot”. The organization then started opening various stores under that particular subsidiary name. However, over the next decade these stores were again renamed as “Staples”. The very first store was established in Ontario, Vaughan and Northern side of Toronto. The very next year the organization decided for expansion, started venturing within European nations and opened their first store within United Kingdom and Swansea.
During the year 1996, the organization successfully achieved their position as one of the 500 enterprises that surpassed $3 billion sales. Then the organization successfully acquired naming rights for “Staples Center” particularly within Los Angeles during the construction in 1998. The 500th store was opened within Florida and the 1000th store was opened in the Duluth, Georgia. The store has been successful so far and they decided to go under a merger with “Office Depot” during 4th of September in 1996.
However, the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) decided that the merger would entirely be biased and would give a significant rise in the price regardless of competition from “OfficeMax”. The FTC also decided that this would adversely affect the local market condition, however “Staples” put their argument forward that there would still be significant level of competition that they would face from the “Wal-Mart “ and “Circuit City Stores”. However, their arguments were not sufficient to convince the FTC (Federal Trade Commission). This eventually ended up with denying the merger of “Staple” and “Office Depot”. This eventually resulted in forming of a rivalry between these two organizations again.
