The headquarters is located in Bentonville, Arkansas. Sam Walton founded the company in 1962 and incorporated on October 31, 1969. It operates under different names in different countries like Walmart in the United States and Canada, Walmart de México y Centroamérica in Mexico and Central America,as Best Price in India, as Asda in the United Kingdom, as the Seiyu Group in Japan, and. It also has wholly owned operations in Argentina, Brazil, and Canada. Sam’s Club retail warehouses is a subsidiary of Walmart.

How it started?

  Sam Walton opened the first of America’s largest retailer under the name  Walmart store on July 6, 1962. The company was renamed as Walmart during its incorporation in 1969. It went public in 1970, moved to New York Stock Exchange in 1972, and operated under the name, WMT. In 1980, WMT claimed itself as reaching US$  1 billion sales in the shortest period than any other company in the history. The company extended its reach out of US during 1991, for the first time by beginning its operation as a part of a joint venture in Mexico. Founder Sam Walton, passed away on April 6, 1992 at the age of 74, after fighting cancer for a brief period.  The company’s global revenue reached US$ 400 billion in 2009 from US$ 380 billion the previous year.
